WHAT'S NEW?
The Geo Band
Album ROLL - remastered
For the first time, the one and only GEO band album is now remastered and online. Called ROLL it was recorded and released orginally in 1981 as an LP. Tjeerd van Zanen, former GEO band guitarist, (co)writer of multiple ROLL songs and STM Records owner took the task to 're' produce the album after acquiring the orginal mixed tapes. This week the album was released again on various online channels. As the former GEO band bass player Peter Hoogerbrugge states:
"After forty two years the music sounds as fresh and new as ever. The music itself is clearly rooted in the tradition of the late seventies/early eighties. The subtle addition of some extra keyboards completes the arrangements. My personal pride, the bassguitar parts, have been refreshed in sound and punch. (Thank you, Tjeerd!) The Yamaha BB1200 bass (still have the instrument, nearly 45 years after I bought it) sounds wonderful. Listen to it on track 4: Fortune.
Drummer Peter Kunst is a powerhouse and I found it a delight to work with him on stage and in the studio.
I think Geo Dijkhuis is an accomplished and original composer and among many the two ballads on this album are a showcase for his talent. His vocal acrobatics still amaze me.
I am grateful that I got the opportunity to be a part of that musical adventure in the early eighties. I don't know if the music will strike a chord with the modern public, but at least now there is a public record of that short but bright musical spark in the Nederpop scene of the early eighties.
